Digitizing a long-standing publication
Associations Now, a publication dedicated to the issues associations cared about, came to nclud looking for a refreshed online identity for the digital version of their publication. I was the lead designer on the project, interfacing daily with the team over at ASAE.
I worked closely with the editor at the time to understand the needs of the end user, refresh the identity in a way that didn't distract too much from the magazine and deliver an experience that felt fresh among the myriad digital publications out there.
Focusing on Typography
Because this was a print magazine to begin with, I wanted to focus a lot of the attention on unique but very readable fonts and find ways of drawing out the copy in interesting ways. When trying to determine which font to use for the majority of the content, I landed on Exo because of its similarlities to the logo for the magazine. The things I liked most about it were its wide variety of weights, as well as the fact that it was a Google font, so it was free to use ā perfect for an association magazine with a limited budget!
In the end, I think the thing I'm most proud about this website is that it's still live today, 4.5 years after it's launch. I believe that it has stood the test of time and the limitations of a constantly updated website.
